Liquid Membrane Systems
Historically most liquid systems were introduced as ‘cheap’ bitumen based products using emulsions or solvents as the liquid carriers, as a brush application combined with a glass fibre weave and may have been considered as a cost saving solution to tackling large roof areas for a fraction of the cost of re-roofing in conventional BUFR systems.
This has radically changed over the years with the advent of plastic based materials with chemically engineered solvent based products which are manufactured as ‘Liquid Applications’ whilst the products themselves may in fact be considered as 80% solid! These are no longer the ‘poor relation’ to BUFR but either an enhancement to a system where normal felt applications cannot (or should not) be laid - perhaps due to on-site restrictions – or as a full system in its own right – which may even be insulated if required, but no longer with the ‘poor relation’ price tag.
